12 Hours.....

12 Hours, that's all it is... just 12 hours worth of college classes that I signed up for this semester. This is my second semester now since returning to school. The first "go round" of my college education actually began in the fall of 1989. I attended Lon Morris College in Jacksonville, Tx. My initial game plan was to study the Bible and become a youth minister.... what really happened was quite different but that story is for another time. Now, more than 2 decades later I have returned to school to complete my degree. Though I still have a heart for studying the Bible my academic pursuit is not theological but numerical. I am after a degree in accounting. I love these numbers, spreadsheets are like chocolate, and filing payroll taxes... SIGN ME UP! :)

Can anyone be more surprised at the number of days with sunshine than I!!?? My dear friends daughter has, as matter of fact, declared it to be this way for the rest of spring!! I wish and hope it to be true!

We have cleaned out the landscaping and re-barked, retrieved rock from a friend and strategically placed it as a border in the front and ground cover in the back.... and of course what has been accomplished in the yard is nothing to what I see happening in my mind but it is coming along nicely!

The love of my life will not be venturing on any Naval "field trips" this spring or summer so all "man jobs will be HIS to do!! What a summer this will be.. playing in my yard and taking care of it rather than just maintaining by the skin of my teeth!

Do You Have One??

Well, it has finally started! We now have a storage unit..... half full I might add! The process of reducing, reusing, recycling or just down right pitchin' it out has begun......

What a (hmmmm how can I put it without completely displaying my resentment towards the whole process???), ah, yes, a "challenge"..... that's what it is. Many hours have already been spent riffling through piles of accumulated paperwork, home schooling supplies, clothes, linens, and kitchen stuff. Next in line will be crafts, sewing, tools, and my children's favorite.... TOYS!

I have a question though... It's what I happen to be dealing with right now...... "the drawer". It lives in my kitchen, this drawer. Strangely it has sucked into it's black hole type vortex various items like.... batteries, shower curtain hooks, postcards, tools, hardware, pens, pencils, sticky notepads, rocks (yes, I counted 7), scissors and my personal favorite.... the wine glass flip flop with "bling". It goes quite nice with Gabbiano Pinot Grigio.

I have tried to keep the chaos to a minimum but find that it has spread now to my living room floor. It's really not so bad. There's the "to go through" pile, the "the gone through" pile, the "thrift store" pile, the "recycle bin", and Ellen's Science Fair project.... wait.... that's not supposed to be there!!

Uh oh, I hear a power tool running..... Alex is off to Vegas for a few weeks so it must be one of the kids....bye

must run!

Therein lies "The "Wub"

I've tried my hand at several types of arts and crafts from scrap booking to sewing; needle point to crochet. One of my favorite of these past times is crochet. The start of this particular craft is learning the meaning of various, hmm what would it be called. Initials? There are no periods. An acronym? This isn't the navy. Whatever it is called, it is a grouping of letters that describe the type of "stitch" needed to accomplish with the yarn and the crochet hook. Here are some examples: Ch - chain, SC - single crochet, DC - double crochet, and so on... these are the ones I actually know the meaning of!

My dear friend has a huge eggplant colored afghan on her couch that is quite soft and quite cuddly. I asked her how it was done with such large loops and fuzzy seemingly abundant yarn. I believe, if I am remembering correctly, that it was made with several strands of yarn not just the typical one. It was also made with the worlds largest crochet hook I had ever seen. More inquiries were made of my friend as to how this wonderful blanket was made and I learned that she made hers "oh, about so long", and "wide enough to cuddle two on the couch".

I chose some fuzzy variegated autumn colored homespun and a light khaki yarn to begin my now birthday present for the hubby. I was instructed to do a chain first. The length of this chain was to be the same as my husbands height. From there it was all about double crochet and chain. Easy enough right! This afghan took over three months to complete and well over 30 skeins of yarn. It covers my queen size bed from floor on the left to floor on the right. It "puddles " appropriately on each side and carries a weight of about 15 lbs. Funny thing about this project is I haven't the slightest idea what type of stitch I was doing and I doubt I could recreate it!

We have given the affectionate name of "wubby" to this afghan, or "the wub" for short. It is truly warm and a precious comfort when one wants to curl up with a good book or is not feeling to well. It can wrap around, and around, and around, whoever happens to be using it. Though it could fit all five of the members of my family, plus the dog and cat it is generally hoarded by one individual at a time! ..... and therein lies "The Wub"
